Once Upon An Expat is Now Available!

once upon an expat mum revised

Today is the day Once Upon An Expat is available from Amazon! You heard me right (not heard me write, cuz then I’d have to call someone). I’m in yet another book! This one is full of tales from distant lands. Not Milwaukee. I mean Asia, throughout Europe, The Americas, and one measly entry from Australia. Wait. That one was from me! There may be a bug involved and possibly some sticky tape. But, you will have to order the book to get the full story. Click my link here:

In Canada, it is only available on Kindle by downloading it through this link: Once Upon an Expat.

All author royalties will be donated to Books Abroad, helping promote literacy and education in developing countries.

I’ve ordered a copy to give away but it won’t arrive until the 20th. So, for one lucky commenter, I will send you a ‘signed by me’ copy of the first book I was in. Tales of Wonder, Woe, and WTF?! If you don’t win that one, you can buy it on Amazon.com with my affiliate link here: Martinis & Motherhood: Tales of Wonder, Woe & WTF?! or click the cute picture below for the Amazon.ca link. Comment on this blog by the time I get from BlogU on Monday the 13th and I will send it out next week.

Speaking of… I am headed to BlogU this Friday. This is a blogging conference in the States and I am pretty much terrified that my vision of myself as a writer will be squashed like an Australian green tree bug at Christmas. Shit, I gave away too much. Wish me luck and watch for the action on my Twitter and Instagram feeds. I’ll be back next week to send out the book and write about my adventures. In the meantime, here is what I wrote about when I attended the Canadian Blogging Conference Blissdom before I went the first time.

I was pretty scared then too and it turned out ok. I will have met at least one other person at BlogU in real life (Hi, Anne!), but beyond that, I will be sharing the weekend with internet friends only. Once we meet, though, they will be IRL friends and I’m going to have to order more Christmas cards this year. I’m ready 🙂

If you have any stories of being an expat, do share. Or, if you have been to a conference that intimidated you, fess up to make a girl less jittery. Please!

  1. Congratulations on yet another success! Where is BlogU taking place?

  2. You can always pack your own. That’s why flasks were invented!

  3. And this is why I love working in a library. While I think I can find just a bit more space in my house for one more book it’s nice that I can also order a copy for a library where it’ll be available to a much wider audience.

  4. First off, congratulations on the book! I went to BlogU last year and had a wonderful time! I was quite intimidated beforehand and, if I’m honest, there were times during the conference where I felt a bit lonely and uncomfortable – because a lot of people already “knew” each other and were hanging out…so I felt like a third wheel and didn’t want to push myself into interactions that others were having. I think that was more of my own problem than being intentionally left out by others – but I’m socially awkward, so there’s that. But like I said, overall I had a great time. I would have gone again this year – but money (and time off from work) makes it impossible. Have lots of fun!!

So, did you actually live in Australia for a time? I LONG to be an expat, but I don’t know the first thing about how to make that happen.

    • We lived in Melbourne for three years before we had kids. We were fortunate that Mister’s work helped us get there as it was always a goal of ours to live abroad. So find an employer with offices overseas and make it happen. Or, retire early and just go! Both of those may not be feasible, but it is fun to dream.
I am exactly worried about what you are describing at BlogU! I’m not an introvert by any stretch, but it will definitely be out of my comfort zone. Wish me luck!

  5. Congrats! Aw shucks did I miss the giveaway? I have never been to a conference but would to go to one but unfortunately where I am, there are alot of other stuff that’s not available anyway. Yep, that sad.
